Space Matters: How Design Can Support A Learner-Centered Future

What’s driving the future of learning today, and how will this impact the design of space? The path of the learner has evolved and so has the role of the educator. New kinds of flexible spaces will put learners and educators at the center of the action. Join us for a conversation with Gensler as we explore this question across three case stories: Capitol Federal Hall, the new School of Business at the University of Kansas; Kellogg Global Hub, the new School of Management at Northwestern, and the upcoming Columbia College Chicago Student Center. Beginning with an overview of current trends, this webinar will focus specifically on those aspects of the interior environment that support learner engagement. Central to this topic are tactical considerations that can lead to an optimal project result, including durability, lifespan, impact, cost, standardization, and user choice.

What you will learn:

  1. An overview of the major drivers of education trends and how they are impacting the design of future learning environments.
  2. The qualities of a learning environment – both in and outside of the classroom – that are critical to supporting the learning process.
  3. How to weigh and measure important considerations when designing learning environments, including durability, lifespan, impact, cost, standardization, and user choice.
  4. A survey of three separate case stories illustrating how these considerations might differ between institutions and building types.
